Is there a market for clean label in Asia Pacific?
While regulatory bodies across the globe continue to question front-of-pack health claims, back-of-pack labels are under close scrutiny from shoppers anxious to know exactly what is in their food. People often exercise caution if the name of an ingredient is unfamiliar or ‘scientific’ and consumers are increasingly suspicious of anything that sounds artificial.
We see an increase in the use of words like ‘natural’, ‘locally-produced’, ‘additive-free’, and ‘organic’ as positioning claims on packaged food. Such coveted claims are so popular that almost a fifth of global new product launches are now positioned as natural or additive-free. In the absence of industry-wide guidance, Ingredion has published a definition of clean label to help our customers understand the trend and align product development accordingly.
